Addis Guzo is a non-profit, tax-exempted association based in Berne, Switzerland.

The association is responsible for the strategic and technical management of the projects in Ethiopia and is responsible for providing the necessary financial resources.

All members do their work on a voluntary basis. We act according to the principles of impartiality, neutrality and independence.

With her diverse working and life experience she is a great support for Addis Guzo.

Long before Addis Guzo was founded Bernhard used to support an NGO in Addis Ababa. Over several years he volunteered to work there during his holidays.

Being a wheel chair expert he is responsible for any technical questions within the project.

Christine’s imagination and her talent for handcrafts helped to develop the workshop training for adults with physical handicaps as well as the day care center for families with handicapped children.

During her five-year stay in Ethiopia with her husband Manuel (who worked as co-worker for DEZA) Regula engaged herself in the work with mentally and physically disabled children in an orphanage.

Working as a co-worker for the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation Manuel got to know Ethiopia in manifold facets.

Regula and Manuel accompanied and supported the work of Addis Guzo right from the start.

 
 

Team in Ethiopia

All permanent employees are Ethiopian nationals.

The Center for People with Disabilities in Ethiopia is managed by Tamirat Belay (Country Director).
He has extensive experience in key areas of senior management and holds a "Master of Arts in International Social Sciences" from Friedensau University of Theology in Germany.

At present (2018) a total of 25 people work for our projects in Addis Ababa.

Our team in Ethiopia receives regular support and advice from professional volunteers from Switzerland and Germany.

Cooperation

Close cooperation at various levels in Switzerland and Ethiopia is the basis for the successful impact of our projects.

In Ethiopia we have:

  • Cooperation agreements with the authorities
  • Active exchanges with local organizations
  • Exchange with international organizations (such as International Committee of the Red Cross ICRC, Menschen für Menschen)
  • Close contact with the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperartion SDC and the Swiss Embassy
  • Contact with diplomatic representatives of other countries

In Switzerland, we maintain contacts with rehabilitation technology companies, aid agencies of the Swiss National Insurance IV, various organizations, institutions and foundations. Intensive cooperation exists with the associations Signum Vitae and rollaid (www.rollaid.org)
